Among the amenities of our neighborhood are the twelve Little Free Libraries, which have proved very popular. A map showing their locations, plus a jigsaw puzzle library in a storage bin in the driveway at 2439 Whitney Court, and a free food pantry is here.
The Van Zandt family’s library, on Anna near Whitney, underwent renovation in September 2025. It was patched, and has new paint, new trim, and a new door.
Jay Furlong installed his on Thompson at Laura when he made a downsizing move to Monta Loma in 2025. Before his daughters grew up, the tiny chairs in the pot’s garden had little readers with tiny books, and would welcome new ones.
Andrew and Euell report that their easy-to-spot library on W. Middlefield at Nedson Ct. is a hit with the court’s residents. “The kids love it.”
In 2025, Sarah and Dox Doxiadis replaced the bench on Adele at Palmer with one bolted to the post after the first one was stolen. Their LFL was installed in 2017.
The Kotler family’s library went up on Thompson Court in 2024.
This one, on Jane Lane near Thompson Avenue, is a gift of Rebecca Chopra and Michelle Schaal, and erected with the help of Jeff Mills in September 2023. It’s intended for children’s books.

This one, in the 2400 block of Alvin, was built by the Whitson family in summer 2015.

Alice’s first story hour for children in 2015 attracted grandparents, too.
Even her full-size rocking llama listened attentively.
No longer here:
The Peifer-Brownfield family built a mid-century-modern Little Free Library
for children in the 100 block of Hamilton. It was their son’s request for his fourth birthday. Unfortunately, it had to be dismantled after it was vandalized in Fall 2022.
